Curated by Belinda Cobby The seventh incarnation of the Totally Huge New Music Festival sees its first realisation as a biennial event. Extended to a two-week celebration of the many approaches to new music, the festival creates a unique window into the practices of contemporary composers and sound artists worldwide.The First Ever Ruined Piano ConvergenceWorld renowned WA artist Ross Bolleter is joined by artists from around the world for a 9 days of Ruined Piano exhibition, installations, Performances and talks at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts.Renowned WA composer, performer and Ruined Piano researcher Ross Bolleter & artists from around the world including Annea Lockwood (USA) and Michal Murin (Slovakia) come together to assemble an exhibition/installation of 'Ruined Pianos' in the PICA central and adjoining spaces. Accompanying the works will be the stories behind each 'exhibit' and the 'installation' will in fact be the basis of a series of performances and talks throughout the exhibition period ( ie in situ )Bolleter is also creating a separate multi media ruined piano installation. This will be as a result of travel/research throughout the year.A call for Ruined Pianos statewide will be promoted which would then build on the exhibition through actual pianos or documentation thereof.
